300 Titel: Punk-Label bringt MP3-CD

New York (mmö) - Das richtungsweisende Monsterwerk, das den Namen "Go-Kart MP300 Raceway" tragen wird, ist genau genommen ein Doppelalbum. Go-Kart Records bieten darauf über 300 Stücke von 150 Punkrockern und -rockerinnen als - der Titel legt es nahe - MP3s komprimiert dem feinen Gehör feil. Unter den Künstlern, die auf dem Album vertreten sein werden, befinden sich so illustre Namen wie Sick of it All, Good Riddance oder die Vandals. Als Extra wird es auf den CDs einen interaktiven Teil mit Band-Infos geben.

Das Beste kommt aber noch: die Doppelscheibe kostet nur $ 9.99. Mit dem Super-Sampler will Go-Kart-Records zeigen, dass es nur einen Weg gibt, die Krise des Musikbiz zu überwinden: Kundenfreundlichkeit. CDs seien für das, was sie dem Konsumenten bieten, viel zu teuer, befinden die NY-Punks. Diese Tatsache sei unter anderem dafür verantwortlich, dass sich Musikliebhaber die Musik eher aus dem Netz saugen, als ihr hart verdientes Geld in den nächsten Plattenladen zu tragen.

Aufsehen erregte das Label in den USA bereits, als es sechs komplette Alben von Labelbands zum kostenlosen Download anbot. Außerdem wandte es sich in einem offenen Brief an den Verband der amerikanischen Plattenindustrie, RIAA. Dieser verfolgt eine harte Vorgehensweise gegen Musik-Kopierer und File-Sharer. Der Brief greift die Organisation scharf an und wirft ihr vor, die wirklichen Probleme, die für die Krise der Musikindustrie verantwortlich seien, zu verkennen.

Das Punk-Label besteht bereits seit 1994 in New York und vertreibt unter anderem Bands wie Anti-Flag und die Buzzcocks. Der Sampler ist eine der ersten CDs mit MP3-Files, die kommerziell vertrieben wird.
